The first police force in the modern sense was created by the government of King Louis 14th in 1667 to police the city of Paris.
It was an Act of Parliament introduced by Sir Robert Peel to start a policing service in London. The first policemen were nicknamed Peelers or Bobbies after Sir Robert.

Police have been around in Australia almost since the start of European settlement on the continent. The very first police force in the colony of New South Wales was formed on 8 August 1789, and it was composed of about a dozen convicts. In the early 1900's people were starting to realize how useful a Shepherd could be in the police force.
It was in 1829 that Peel established the Metropolitan Police Force for London based at Scotland Yard. The 1,000 constables employed were affectionately nicknamed bobbies or, somewhat less affectionately, peelers. Although unpopular at first, they proved very successful in cutting crime in London.

Once completed you will have a probationary period. If you make it through that you will then start pursuing a particular line of police work.

in the UK the minmum age to start training properly to be in the police force is 18 - when college is over.
