Challenger Crew:
Michael J. Smith
Dick Scobee
Ronald McNair
llison Onizuka
Gregory Jarvis
Judith Resnik
Christa McAuliffe (She was chose from more than 11,000 applicants to be the first teacher in space)
Some evidence points to 3 of the crew didn't die instantly in the explosion, there helmets had been recovered which indicated that oxygen supply to the helmets had been switched on after the explosion, indicating they were alive, until impacting into the sea at 3,400 miles per hour, which killed them.
Teacher in SpaceTeacher in Space was a NASA program first introduced by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. The goal was to teach and promote interest in space exploration. More than 11,000 teachers applied for the program, and Christa McAuliffe was chosen to be the first teacher in space. Christa McAuliffe, along with six other brave astronauts died in the Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986. The Challenger exploded 73 seconds after launch, killing the entire crew. After the Challenger disaster, Preident Reagan announced that the program would continue. However, NASA later decided to eliminate the program.Christa Mcauliffe was a teacher in Midland Michigan before she started to train to be an astronaut.
Among US astronauts the Challenger crew members Judith Resnik and Christa Mcauliffe both died- with all other hands- when their craft exploded barely 2 minutes into the trajectory. I do not know if any Female cosmonauts have died in space-related accidents . The other fatal spaceflight accident involving two females- also was the Space Shuttle Columbia- which occured on re-entry, not launch. In orbit proper- mercifully that hasn"t happened yet. I do not know about Russian female cosmonauts.
James Benson Irwin was an astronaut and one of the youngest astronauts to die. However, the names of his parents are not listed.
There are hundred to thousands of people who die per year in Massachusetts. This number is larger during years of disaster.
He is the person who told the shot-firer that it was dangerous. According to my research he didn't die until much later :)
See: how did the astronauts die in the Challenger disaster.

The Challenger exploded because the primary and secondary O-rings were stiff from cold weather. They were not put in correctly and not checked. Hot gases leaked thorugh the O-rings and mixed with the fire from take off. The external tank then caught on fire and soon the Challenger exploded, killing the seven passengers including Christa McAuliffe.
14 shuttle crew members have died since 1986. Challenger and Columbia
Sharon Christa McAuliffe died in the Challenger disaster. All 7 members of the crew perished.
They didn't die during the blowup, they died when the part that they were in hit the water so hard that anybody could survive-
Dr. Ronald McNair was one of the seven astronauts that died on the Shuttle Challenger. It exploded 74 seconds after takeoff in January of 1986.

They die
Well, some astronauts do. Not all astronauts will die in space, but some will if the mission went wrong or if it is just being there when you die of natural causes.
George Henry Challenger died in 1947-12.
No. Only a few astronauts have died in the line of duty, and very few (and no Americans) have died in space. The most dangerous part of any space journey is the launch and the landing. Three American astronauts were killed in a fire in the capsule on the launch pad during testing before Apollo 1. Seven astronauts were killed when space shuttle Challenger was destroyed during launch, and seven astronauts were killed when the shuttle Columbia disintegrated over Texas during re-entry. At least a few astronauts were killed in aircraft accidents. We believe that the Russians lost a couple of astronauts in space, but this has never been admitted. Several Russian astronauts have died during re-entry or during the landing.
