The other man on the Apollo 11 crew was Michael Collins, who stayed in the Command Module while Armstrong and Aldrin landed. Collins was charged with getting the crew to the moon and back. He was also responsible for making observations and taking orbital photos of the moon to find suitable landing sites for future Apollo missions. Collins' most important task was to be ready to rescue Armstrong and Aldrin should the Lunar Module not reach lunar orbital altitude.
Every Apollo mission took a crew of 3 people. There was no room for tourists on any Apollo spaceflight.
