Misa Amane does not die in Death Note the manga. You see her at the end of the book, when the Kira supporters are on the mountain, right before it says in the end there is nothing.
In the anime you last see her past the safety rail on a building. You can make up your own mind.
In the movie she breaks down emotionally, but does not die.
[edit]----- I'm sorry, but you are wrong. Had you read or payed attention to #13, how to read, you would have known that the girl at the end of the book is not anybody, just a character added to make the last scene look more beautiful.
He also includes in the 13 Truths chapter this, " Misa had lost her memories as Kira but still loved Light. And since those who use the notebook suffer misfortune, someone like Matsuda probably let it slip that Light had died. Misa then fell into depression and commited suicide... something like that."
So, even though it's shrouded in mistery, it is most likely that Misa Amane commited suicide on 2/14/2011, her recorded death date. (yes, the year 2011: the story skips into the future.) it show's misa on top of a building, you don't see her jump off but it suggests that she does in the last episode during the credits

∙ 13y agoThough it is not explicitly stated, Misa was not in love with Rem, but rather looked to her as a guide. Rem, though, is proven to have been in love with Misa when she killed for Misa, which in turn killed her like a previous shinigami, Greed.

Rem kills L because she loves Misa so much that she feels like a mother to her. Light blackmailed Rem to write L's real name in the note book, the only way to kill L *most important thing to Light* and save Misa(most important thing to Rem). Light's plan works and for him it's like hitting two birds with one stone. Both L and Rem, not to mention Watari died who were the biggest obstacles to him. I would like to point out that i have watched death note and death note 2 and Rem doesnt kill him (OMFG Rem is a girl ?!) Rem was not blackmailed by Light as Rem can just right down Lights name and kill him like Ryuk does at the end because Light goes syco :/. How did rem get Death Note?
Within the Death Note universe, the only way to kill a death god is if they sacrifice themselves to save a human. If a human is alreadysupposed to die in a certain way and the shinigami interferes the death god will die. Light was supposed to die but in order to keep her promise to Gelus, Rem had to keep Misa safe and happy. Had Light died, Rem would not have kept her promise thus why she interfered at the cost of her own life.
Why did the Shinigami from the Death Note kill Watari?
Rem killed him. She used her Deathnote to kill him because he posed a threat to Misa Misa. As a result of saving Misa, Rem desinagrated and her remaining lifespan was transfered to Misa. (Though why anyone would want to save Misa Misa is beyond me.)

Rem kills L because Light forced her into a corner where the only way to save Misa's life was through L's death. L had the death note, and he was about to test his theory that the rule that If you don't write a name in the death note in thirteen days, then you will die. If he had been able to test that theory, he would have discovered that that rule was a fake, and this rule had been the predominant factor in the proposal of innocence of Light and Misa. L would have suspected Light and Misa as the Kiras again, and he quite possibly would have discovered the truth and have them executed.
