Originally, he simply turned the guitar around and restrung it himself. That meant, of course, that the pick guard on the guitar was upside-down. As Paul acquired more money, he could afford to go in search of left-handed Guitars that suited his fancy.
Yes. Paul McCartney was the left handed one. Do not let anybody tell you otherwise. I would know I am a Beatles/Wings freak.
Left handed.
However, he does play "true" right handed guitars that have been altered to be playable left handed.
He played a right-handed guitar backwards in the early days before left handed guitar/bass models were available. These days he can be seen playing true left handed instruments though.
Bass guitar, piano/keyboard, harmonica... Paul McCartney can play almost anything. Paul is a multi-instrumentalist, but mostly he played bass and sang.

Paul taught himself how to play. This task was made even harder by the fact that he was left handed and not only had to teach himself to play, but figure out he had to take the strings of and switch them to accommodate this. Never had one lesson and became an inspiration for all bass players since. Hope this helps!

Of course. Paul McCartney was the primary bass player for the band, although other members (George in particular) who did play bass for certain songs such as "Hey Jude" and "Helter Skelter"
He mainly played bass. But he too could play drums, piano, guitar and other instruments.

He enjoyed go-carting in the early Beatles days.
Paul McCartney plays a Hofner 500/1 1963 bass guitar. He chose this bass as it was easy to revert it to left handed. He still plays this bass today. He started off with the Hofner as it was easy to flip over to play left handed and has gone back to playing it. For a number of years (especially after they stopped playing live) he played a Rickenbacker 4001.In the early 90s he had a custom Wal bass which was "like wearing a door".
Primarily Bass Guitar, but he has played many other instruments including piano, lead guitar, rhythym guitar and drums
Höfner 500/1 violin bass. Checkout the Youtube video of TTR live at Wmbley 1965.
