Yes. The 34th Infantry Division was one of the first US formations deployed overseas, in May 1942, partly as a gesture of support for the beleaguered UK, and finished its training in northern Ireland. The Division is the National Guard of the Dakotas, Iowa and Minnesota, and had been "activated" (or "Federalized") in February, 1941, meaning it went on full time duty under the control of the US Army, rather than its usual peacetime posture of being under control of the various state governors. It usually took two tears to train a National Guard division, which instead of starting from scratch, had to "unlearn" a lot of bad habits, and incompetent and overage officers, appointed for political reasons by the state governors, had to be weeded out. Replacements and additions to the men of the division would have come from all the states, not just the ones which were the National Guard bases in peacetime.
