Not really, no direct help anyway. The airborne troops were dropped several miles inland from the beach. One might contend that confusion and alarm among the Germans caused by the airborne landings prevented the Germans from concentrating exclusively on the beaches, and maybe that this prevented reinforcements from being sent to the beaches. This is really only speculation. The Germans had no plans to send reinforcements in the event of a landing.
The airborne provided more direct assistance at Utah Beach. Not to the extent that they were attacking beach defenders from behind while the landing was going on, more in the nature of helping secure exits from the beach inland, so the beachhead could be enlarged. The mission of the airborne was to secure the flanks of the invasion area to slow German reinforcements from nearby areas, and to secure river crossing sites.
The 1st and 29th US Divisions finally fought out of the beach head in late afternoon at huge cost. Many lives could have been saved by having armour support, and the help of British "funny" tanks.

There are no automatic bids to get to the College World Series in Omaha. But, if you win your division you are guaranteed to be placed in a regional. From there you have to win your regional and win the super regional to make it to Omaha.
