Australia fought in Gallipoli where the Australian troops courageously tried to capture the beach from the Turks.

In addition to Gallipoli, Australians fought on the Western Front in France; the Light Horse Brigade went to Egypt and the Middle East; the Australian Flying Corps served in German New Guinea, Mesopotamia and India; the Australian Navy saw action in the Indian ocean (they sank a German light cruiser off the Cocos Islands) and German New Guinea.

Australian in WWI was primarily a support crew for Britain. The major battle that Australia was involved in during WWI was the Gallipoli campaign. From 25th of April 1915 to December 1915, Australia, Britain and France attempted to create a passage way to support Russia on the Eastern Front by knocking Turkey out of the war. They fought them on the Gallipoli Peninsula along its cliffs and steep hills. This battle is generally considered Australia's 'baptism of fire' on the world stage.

We also fought on the Western Front in many of the major battles (Somme, Passchendaele) and in Egypt defending the Suez Canal. In all of the military engagements of WWI, Australia fought with New Zealand in the ANZAC.

Australia and New Zealand Army Corps.
