Not likely, although their spread throughout Eastern Europe (the diaspora) left them at the mercy of whatever local or national entity decided to punish them for their faith (or their success in the trades). As for why so many went to their deaths in the Holocaust, I'm sure that most did not recognize the threat. Even the Jews that fought back had too little armament and too little organization to make much of a difference.
Yes. Why is this in WWII? Are you stupid? It happened hundreds of years before WWII.
Many, but it is hard to get figures for that.
Because they had dignity and hope. Not everyone resorts to such a low tone level as to commit suicide.

The Jews there were captured.
To stop the Roman empire's army from killing them. Masada is a hill fort.
Masada is Jewish. Herod the Great did some extensive building at Masada. Later in the Jewish wars with Rome Masada was well fortified and the Jews held the Romans off for many long months. When the Romans had advanced to the point of capturing the Jews a pact was made and the Jews killed each other so that they would not be taken captive.
It was Masada in 73 CE
there wasn't a battle, but what happened is that the Romans surrounded Masada (you can still see their camps today) and said that either they kill the jews, or make them slaves, and the jews didn't want to be butchered, or made into slaves, so everyone committed suicide.
Muslim view: Jesus did not commit suicide. In body, he was slain. Jesus, like all prophets, were tasked with the duty of delivering a message and scripture to a specific group of people. His audience didn't approve of him and since he couldn't look the other way, he was slain.
Several high-ranking Nazis killed themselves as the war was ending, including Hitler and Eva Braun. Also, Goering killed himself while in prison.
It was not a fort but a palace and because of the location they used it.
I guess for the same reason as most people- tourism (and an interest in our history).
