Mormons are permitted to eat shrimp. If they do or not depends more on their personal taste. Mormons do not have many food restrictions. They are taught moderation. Their main restrictions are from tea and coffee. Many believe it is due to the caffeine. They are also not religiously permitted to use tobacco products or Alcoholic Beverages.

Yes.

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Christians are not under the Mosaic Law code and its dietary laws, which was given exclusively to the Jewish nation. (Lev 11:9-12; Deut 14:9, 10) They hold that the interdiction of eating seafood is no longer obligatory for those wishing to please God in an approved way.

Whether they eat shrimp, therefore, is entirely a matter of personal preference.

Yes, I believe so. I believe that the New Testament teaches that the Law of Moses - which was only given to the Jews in first place - has been set aside (retired). And since the prohibition against shrimp is an article of the Law of Moses, it is no longer in force.

Yes. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) can eat fish if they want. The Church has no guidelines about fish or seafood.

If you want to learn more about the Mormon health code, the "Word of Wisdom", you can check out the "Related Links" below.

Yes. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) does not have any dietary restrictions regarding cheese or other dairy products. The Church does have a health code called the "Word of Wisdom", which Mormons believe was revealed by God to the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1833. The Word of Wisdom prohibits the consumption of alcohol, tobacco, "hot drinks" (usually interpreted as tea and coffee), and illegal or addictive substances. The law does allow for the use of some prohibited substances for medicinal purposes (i.e. alcohol to be used to sanitize or clean wounds, or as anesthetic when modern alternatives are unavailable.) The Word of Wisdom also recommends a diet high in vegetables, fruits, herbs, and whole grains with light use of meat and poultry. You can read the Word of Wisdom here: Doctrine & Covenants 89

Members of the Fundamentalist LDS Church live a much more restrictive lifestyle than regular Mormons. Fundamentalists distance themselves from society and are only found in a few small insular communities in the United States. They do not eat meat, dairy products (including cheese), products containing white flour or white sugar, and processed or packaged foods, although unlike regular Mormons, some Fundamentalists openly drink coffee and alcohol.

As there are over 40,000 Christian organizations worldwide, it would be safe to say most allow eating shellfish like shrimp. However, there are those who imitate Christ (disciple meaning) and avoid all shellfish and pork, etc. just as Jesus did, the Apostles and the most of the first 3 centuries AD. It was humankind, particularly the Roman Emperor Constantine who wanted to differentiate his new form of 'Christianity' from the Law of God followed by Jewish converts.

Many get confused about who is the Lawmaker. Quite simply it is God. Moses simply was a good scribe who put in writing all that God told him to. It is God's Law and no one else.

Leviticus 27:34New International Version (NIV)34 These are the commands the Lord gave Moses at Mount Sinai for the Israelites. (See also Exodus 17:14; 27:34; 34:27, Leviticus 1:1 thru 27:34 shown here and note that Jesus called him the giver in all 4 gospels).

John 7:19New King James Version (NKJV)19 Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill Me?”

Can Mormons fish?

Yes of course! Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) are welcome to fish, and many enjoy it as a hobby. The Church has no official doctrines or guidelines about fishing. Mormons are asked not to kill animals senselessly, so Mormons who hunt and fish are encouraged to eat what they catch.
