Definitely not. The Texan garrison at the Alamo was wiped out to the last man. It was a sacrifice which delayed the advance of the Mexican Army for thirteen days. The first Texan victory was at Gonzales, when the war began. The only reaql battle the Texans won was the last one and that is the one that matters in a war.

Why was the Battle of the Alamo significant and who won?

The actual battle was not really significant, but what it did was unite the Texans into a better army and give them a cry to drive them to the end, "Remember the Alamo!". The 100 Texans manning the Alamo were vastly outnumbered by 5,000. The garrison of Texans defending the Alamo lost the battle, but the Mexican Army paid dearly for their victory there. The Mexican forces were soundly defeated at San Jacinto where they lost the war.

Why were the Texans unable to hold the Alamo?

The biggest single reason why the Texans were unable to hold the Alamo was because there were 185 Texans in the Alamo, opposed by several THOUSAND Mexicans, who also had a strong advantage in artillery. That the defenders were able to delay Santa Ana's advance as long as they did was practically miraculous. Most accounts of the fall of the Alamo depict it as a defeat, but it was not; the Mexican victory was Pyrrhic. In the context of the larger war for Texas independence against Mexico, the defense of the Alamo was a spectacular victory, because it delayed Santa Ana's army for weeks, giving the main force of the Texans to be gathered for the following battles.
