Did the US know Pearl Harbor was going to be attacked?

No of course not. However the Americans did find out that Japan was going to attack them, but they didn't know when and where. They found this out by cracking the Japanese code, that was being sent through. Japan wanted the attack on Pearl Harbor to be a surprise, so the US would not be prepared to defend themselves. This is why the U.S. lost many men, planes and ships when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Bottom line, the U.S. had no idea that Japan was going to attack Pearl Harbor.

President Roosevelt (FDR) provoked the attack, knew about it in advance and covered up his failure to warn the Hawaiian commanders. FDR needed the attack to sucker Hitler to declare war, since the public and Congress were overwhelmingly against entering the war in Europe. It was his backdoor to war.

Yes. The US decoded the info hours ahead of time but the information got tangled up in bureaucracy... at least that my opinion on the subject. Even with the freedom of information act finding out such trivial things is hard.

No, the attack on Pearl Harbor was a complete surprise to the US government. But the USA had recently invested money in a new radar system and saw the Japanese planes on the screen but believed the machine was malfunctioning and giving false information. So the operator of the machine never sent out an alert.

Yes but only about 10 minutes before the attack and not enough time to let the base of Pearl Harbor know in time.
