How do you determine what your veterans disability benefit will be?
The patient vet doesn't make that determination. The VA does that after examining him. They set the value mark, and it will be done in percentages (%). 10% disabled, etc. Actually, benefits are derived based on the character of the veterans discharge. Once a year the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) publishes a booklet that describes (generally) all the veterans benefits. If a veteran has an honorable discharge, he/she is eligible for all (should he/she meet the requirments). If he/she has a general discharge, the veteran is not eligible for education benefits (GI Bill). If the Veteran has an "other than honorable" discharge, it is up to the DVA to determine if he/she will be paid for compensation for service connected disabilities and will determine if the other benefits will be paid out as well. If the veteran has a Bad Conduct Discharge (BCD), he/she can be buried in a Veteran Cemetary but isn't eligible for much else. A dishonorable discharge excludes the veteran from all benefits. It is a misconception that if you get less than an honorable discharge that your whole time in the service is characterized by the listed character of discharge. An example would be: Let's say an individual was selling drugs and was given a BCD discharge. It was determined by the evidence he was selling in the last six months of his/her service. If he/she had served three years prior to that, that service is considered honorable. The Veteran needs to apply for benefits for that three year period which is deemed HONORABLE, thus all benefits would apply.
When can a spouse of a veteran collecting monthly pension also collect an portion of his pension?
Not until the veteran dies. The pension is the property of the veteran, NOT their spouse. While the veteran is alive, the spouse would not have any monetary claim on the veterans pension unless they divorced. Only then would she be able to make a claim on a percentage of his pension payment.
A Veterans Affairs Job Can be Rewarding?
The Veteran's Administration has a variety of jobs in which workers help those who have served in the armed forces. Jobs in the Veterans Administration range from clerical to medical officer. A Veterans Affairs job offers good government benefits and job security, but most of all, those who work for the Veterans Administration have the privilege of serving our nation's true heroes in times of need. Among the jobs in Veteran Affairs are clinical personnel. Clinical personnel include nurses and nurses assistants who are responsible for providing direct care to hospitalized veterans. Other clinical personnel include physical and occupational therapists who work with disabled and injured veterans, to help them regain use of limbs or learn how to manage with prosthetic limbs. Medical doctors who work for Veterans Affairs determine treatment needed by patients, order medications, and perform surgeries. Veterans Affairs nurse practitioners and physician's assistants extend the work of Veteran Affairs physicians. These individuals can assess medical needs, and perform certain medical tasks under the direction of a physicians. Another important Veterans Affairs job is that of mental health clinician. Mental health clinicians include psychologists, psychiatrists, licensed professional counselors and masters level social workers. Each of these positions works to insure that veterans mental health needs are met. Psychiatrists evaluate mental status and prescribe medication if needed; and recommend other therapeutic interventions such as counseling and day treatment programs. Psychologists conduct assessments. counsel, and evaluate patients. Social workers and counselors provide provide individual and group therapy to help clients deal with issues such as post-traumatic stress syndrome and re-adjusting to civilian life. Social workers also provide case management services by linking veterans to needed services in the community. Other positions that provide therapeutic support include art therapists, music therapists, music therapists and similar professionals. There are also numerous support positions in the the Veterans Affairs job arena. These positions include persons who assist with therapies, mobility and transporting patients to appointments. Medical records personnel and other clerical staff make sure that patient charts are kept up-to-date and that appointments are made and kept. Environmental services or housekeeping staff make sure the hospital environment is kept sanitary. Nutritionists and dietary staff plan healthy menus, prepare and serve food that helps veterans get the nutrients they need while recuperating.

Are there veterans benefits available for senior veterans?
My husband is a Army Veteran and I am not eligible for any benefits because I am not a Veteran. We live in Texas. If you are married to the veteran when he passes, you can collect spousal pay. It comes out of the Veterans check each month. But if you can prove that his death was war related, you can put in a claim. For example, exposure to Agent Orange, If the Veteran had been in Vietnam, and had prostate cancer, or Parkinson's disease. If you win your claim, you will receive his military check. When this happens, you qualify for a lot of the benefits as if you are the Veteran. You qualify for housing loans, If you are disabled, and need assistance in everyday living, you can put in a claim for Examination for Housebound Status or Permanent need for Regular Aid. One more thing, they will have to back pay you starting the month after his death.

Let the Navy know that would like your grandfather to receive all military honors. As long as he was honorably discharged he is eligible to for honors. Contact the Department of Veteran Affairs. Make sure you have his discharge documents on hand for qualification.
How long is free VA health care for veterans?
First of all veterans don't get anything for free. Veteran's make sacrifices that every day Americans can't understand unless they go though it!! They deserve whatever they need to make them feel like themselves again. Unfortunately most of the government politicians have never served!! And they get treated better then our VETERANS !! So I think our Veterans should get at the least the same health care and benefits as any politicians and their family's get. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
When should you honor your veteran?
Veterans should be honored because they sacrifice their life's for us. A lot of people die in war just to make peace in between two nations. People of the United States are able to continue their daily routines with the knowledge that people are protected from any threats from other countries. Veterans have experienced dangerous, life threatening, lonely, and frightening incidents, whether in combat or non-combat roles. I think that we should honor veteran because they make sure we are safe, they make sure we do the right thing whether in War, the Military, or the Navy. I honor veterans because some of my grandpa's, and uncles are veterans. But my dad was in the navy, I barely saw him and I was only three but looking back on it I am so proud of him.
What can you do to honor your veterans?
you can volunteer in community's by going to places where veterans gather If you know a veteran, ask them about their service. Most will take the time to share their experiences with you if they feel that you are genuinely interested in them. Veterans who have served in war sometimes feel that their service wasn't important to anyone who didn't serve. It's important to make them feel like their sacrifice mattered, and by taking the time to listen to them you are honoring them.
