yes and no.
no-the castle was made out of wood, very easy to destroy.
yes-they had soldiers working there and blacksmiths to supply arrows and other weapons.
overall, the defence of a Motte and Bailey castle was quite poor.
they had arrows.
good
Berkhamsted Castle is a good example of a motte and bailey castle where the original wooden defences were later rebuilt in stone.
black-smiths and soldiers mainly lived in motte and bailey castles!.x
1)it was quick to build 2)it was cheapo to build 3)Drawbridge provides additional protection
Motte and bailey castles are made out of wood which produces many advantages including: * They are reasonably strong * They are able to be built within a few weeks * They have a moat which makes invading the castle alot harder * There is a big hill that the motte is built on so the archers in the motte can shoot them with arrows whilst the attackers are scrambling up the hill * They are cheap There are also many more advantages.
They were very good! :)
It was uasually attacked by fire arrows. I'm not bothered to answer fully so type' how Motte and Bailey castles were attacked?' and youll find your answer. Soz, I'm just not intelligent enough so thats why I came here in the first place. So good luck or whatever, break a leg or hand. ;)
they were quick and easy to build so they were good if you were attacking somewhere else and you needed to have a castle to stay in also they were tall and had many defensive systems such as a ditch to trap attackers a mote to drown attackers and a huge hill impossible to run up.
They were good because they were cheap quick and simple castles. after the french invasion the motte (mound of earth) was used as a great defensife system so that many of the enemy can be taken out from the fortress
each castle looked different , but the first castle was a very important one i'm very sorry but all i know is that it would be made out of stone, have lots of curtains and expensive cloth fro the beds - and very very unhygenic thank you! It's "The Tower of London"
i think he built it near towns and Villages so they were in good protection and near major routes so the armys could go places easily.
The stone or square keep castle was built as a natural extension to the motte and bailey, only because the motte and bailey had lots of weakness like:sets on fire easilyrots quicklyisn't very warmdoesn't have very good defensethe only down side was that if the enemy if they dug under ground and got to one of the towers could easily pull out a brick and top pal over the tower itself.
