Yes, there has been evidence that they were in North America 500 years before Columbus.

no, but the vikings did. the Chinese could have discovered America if they wanted to, since they had such great technology, but the Chinese never showed any interest in exploration with the brief exception of the Zheng He expeditions in the ming dynasty. the reason the vikings found America was because they were just awesome.

The Chinese were exploring in ships before the Vikings. The first Chinese ocean going ships were built far back in the Song Dynasty ( c. 960-1270), but the Mongol's also had ships. When Marco Polo made his trip to the Mongol court he described 4 masted ships with 60 individual cabins, watertight bulkheads, and crews up to 300. When the Ming took over voyages were made from 1403 on and it is reported that 317 ships were in port in Nanjing. So, there is the possiblity that "yes" they did explore North American before Columbus.

It was not the Dutch. It was the Vikings, in the year 1000 AD, almost 500 years before Columbus. They settled on the northern tip of the Isle of Newfoundland.
