Why did the french tend to have good relations with the native Americans?

The French had a friendlier relationship with the Native Americans than the Spanish did because the French did not force the Native Americans off of the land. They also did not try to convert them to any other religion.

What were the causes of the conflict between Native Americans and white settlers?

For all the answers to this question I have heard, none makes more sense than the fact that the societies were totally opposite of each other. Where Native Americans basic cultural beliefs kept them from doing bad things, American cultural beliefs allowed them to do all bad things and be forgiven for it by their god without harm to their spirits or afterlives. Americans lie, cheat, steal, destroy, and respect nothing; while Native Americans respect everything, and are forbidden to lie, or cheat - stealing or destroying was done ONLY by strict cultural standards. The basic conflict was over land ownership. The Indians saw the white settlers as invaders who encroached on their land, which of course they were. Even if white settlers bought land in some way, the sellers never had a clear title-- who said that it was theirs to sell? Treeaties were made but there was no central government to enforce them. One chief might make a treaty but once he died or was deposed, the treaty was worthless. There was also the problem of wars in Europe. French and Spanish agents would make alliances with the Indians against English settlers and vice-versa.

Are cattle native to North America?

No, they originated in Eurasia and were brought to NA by settlers. Buffalo has better meat with less fat and more protein and do not harm the soil as cattle. It was a dumb thing not to use the inland resources for meat. Deer also provides good meat. Cattle and swine should have never been introduced to start an industry.

Arrowhead plants (also known as Syngonium) are used as ornamental indoor plants with their arrow-shaped leaves in various colors. How do white settlers feel about native Americans?

The natives were angered by the invasion and took action and attacked the English settlers by shooting arrows and killing them. It did not help when John Smith was trying to calm them down by trying to make them under stand that they mean no harm the other English men were still enraged and trying to attack the natives making matters worse...

What military tactic did the Indians practice which was effective as well as frustrating to the colonists?

Colonists in the Western Hemisphere had a totally different culture than the Native Americans they came upon in their explorations and settlements in both North and South America. European minded settlers knew about vast organized armies fighting each other, sometimes in mutually agreed upon areas. Native American caused harm to the European colonists by conducting random raids on colonial settlements. It was a form of guerrilla warfare that caused much frustration among the early settlers.

How did mission San Gabriel help or hurt Ca?

It did neither. The mission system did harm the Native Americans who were required to work in them. In some missions there are mass graves of Native Americans. A great deal of their culture and language was lost due to the mission system. The missions became a stopping point for people and provided food for the areas where they were located.
