At the end of the barrel there are a series of threads. First and foremost the threads have to match. If they do not, you could strip the threads and make the marker useless. From here simply screw the barrel in till it becomes snug.

Although both are interchangeable, a true Sweet 16 barrel will have three holes drilled through the barrel band. This was one of the ways Browning lightened the barrel. The rib will also be a smidge thinner than on a regular barrel.

There are several Companies that make barrels that will fit your Browning. In order to keep the integrity of the gun, it would be best to find an original Belgian made barrel with the proper markings. You can find a good assortment on the gunbroker.com website, but they do get pricey. Remember the barrel you want is a 16ga with three holes drilled through the barrel band - this is the sweet 16 barrel. For 1963, the barrel should read: BROWNING ARMS Co. St. LOUIS Mo. and MONTREAL PQ. These barrels are for 1959 guns through 1968. Serial numbers do not matter.
