Japanese women had plenty of freedom during the time of Price Shotoku, they were able to own property, had a high influence to society, and many of them were rulers. However, after Japan became a fighting based country, women had no freedom, they had to obey their father, husband, and son. They also had to take care of the home, children, make food, pottery, and clothes as well. So... women did have freedom at one point but it faded away.
