I don't think you will find points on a '94
gap them at .54 I have a 1993 Mercury Topaz with the 2.3 Liter I-4. The recommended gap is .044 (44 thousandths). I highly doubt that the plug will fire with just over 1/2 gap as recommended earlier. The correct gap should be listed on the emissions label under the hood. I have a 1993 Topaz with the 3.0L V6 and the label on my car is on the body piece in front of the radiator. Mine listed a recommended 0.042" - 0.046" gap. I have mine set at 0.044"
According to one of Fords websites : For a 1992 Mercury Topaz , 2.3 litre four cylinder engine : ( the spark plugs are gapped at .054 inch )
A 79 shouldn't have points to gap. It should be an HEI distributor.
The spark plug gap for a 1988 Mercury Topaz 4-cylinder is typically 0.044 inches (1.1mm) as per the manufacturer's specifications. It is important to consult the vehicle's owner's manual or a reputable automotive guide to confirm the correct gap for your specific engine model.
0.035 inch was a previous answer. I would seriously verify that. I show 0.035" as the SPARK GAP of the spark plugs, not the point gap inside the distributor. The point gap I found was more like 0.017" measured with the points open on the high lobe of the distributor shaft.
0.020 in.
.020
I remove the distributor and rotate until the points are at the widest opening. Then using a .017mm fueler Gage I set the point gap. Reinstall the distributor, set timing and roll!
.054 inch ( according to www . ford parts . com , no spaces )
In a 1969 Mustang , 302 with 2 barrel carburetor , the point gap is ( .017 with automatic transmission ) and ( .021 with manual transmission )
35-38 degrees of dwell for .015 point gap on front mountFord 8n distributor.32 degrees of dwell for .025 point gap on side mount Ford 8n distributor (after tractor serial 263843).
The older model mercury outboards, with maker points, should have a 0.020" gap setting.
