follow the center wire out of the distributor cap
These distributors use spring clips which are part of the intermediate cap. The intermediate cap is held in by clips which are part of the distributor.
If it has a distributor it doesnt have a crank position sensor. The magnetic pickup in the distributor is what you would be looking for. The module is either on the side of the distributor or on the firewall against the drivers inner fender.

Because you need to change the gas filter in the carburetor and you need to change the rotor and distributor. I did and the backfiring went away. Now it runs great

It could be either your magnetic pickup in your distributor ( which is like a crank sensor on cars without a distributor) or your engine control module. I would try the pickup first.
