Probably more than we really, truly need, but that's not necessarily "too much". Our bodies have evolved to deal with a range of hydration levels, and can adjust quite well to excess water by expelling it- usually by increased urination. Some people anecdotally swear that drinking a massive amount of water helps their skin remain hydrated, but there seems to be limited evidence to support this. Always take care to remain hydrated, especially when in arid environments or when exercising.

Not much In human portions not alot. But a gerbil will drink as much as it can.
