Yes, they are used for transportation on long journeys, along with alpacas, because they are in the camel family, and they couldn't bring camels because of the climate and habitat that they are used to.
The Aztecs did not have or know the concept of the wheel. The only transportation they had was to walk. They did however build "highways" or trails that stretched for hundreds of miles. They did use Llamas to carry items for them.
