If you hook it up to rabbit ears or an omni-directional antenna than it is free.

You will get only about 10 channels though (if you're lucky) and none will be HD.

Do I need an HDTV antenna separately?

No, you do not need a separate HDTV antenna unless you are using the antenna to get your channels. If you have cable TV, then the antenna is not necessary.

How can you get a better picture from cable on an HDTV without cable box?

On most cable company hookups you won't get HD without the HD converter box.

Why my hdtv can get signal from my antena?

An over the air television through an antenna is what people used to use back in the golden age of television, before there was anything like a coaxial cable, and when there were three or four channels at the most. OTA channels still very much exist and with the OTA update that was made when it became clear that HD was here to stay, you can now get HDTV antennas and watch those major channels with a crystal clear picture, without befooing tied down to a cable provider.

If i have a digital cable box and plug it into my basic cable will i get digital cable?

No. No when it comes to subscription channels such as MTV, Food Netowrk etc. You have to have a cable box that is from a local cable provider and call the company to activate the service. If you have an HDTV with a digital tuner, you can plug in the basic cable from a wall into your television and scan for channels. You will only get unencrypted / basic network channels such as CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, etc.

Starting from an HDTV cable box using a split cable going to the pip output can you connect another tv to the pip output and get an HDTV picture on the other tv?

Hi, It really depends on your PIP output on the cable box and whether or not the output is HDTV or standard TV. And in some cases, the PIP output will only display non-HDTV channels, depending again, on the box and the cable company. However, IF the cable company says that a HDTV signal is available from the PIP output on the cable box, then it'll probably work. The only way to be sure is to connect a TV and find out. Hope this helps, Cubby

When you have a HDTV with antenna will it be necessary to go with a cable company?

No, and actually you will probably get more over the air channels than before, and with much higher quality than you might expect. Some of the channels are being broadcast in HDTV format, which has higher resolution than standard TV. Look at other questions about HDTV and how to find out what stations are in your area and how to choose the best antenna.

Can you connect the ps3 to a hdtv?

Can you buy your own box to receive the HD TV signal if you have just purchased a HD TV and have not signed up for HD TV service from your cable company yet?

Please note that you don't have to have HD TV service to play HD TV games, but you do to watch high definition television. If your TV is an "HDTV" (as opposed to a "HD ready TV"), then the Radio Shack box isn't going to do you any good. There are two ways that you might be able to get HDTV programing without buying HD cable service. Your HDTV should have a digtial over the air tuner (ATSC in the US). If you are located in an area were you can get TV reception with an antenna, then just hook up a TV antenna to your HDTV and tune into a HDTV broadcast. Some cable systems include non-premium digial channels in a format called QAM. Most HDTVs have a QAM tuner built into them. Just connect your HDTV directly to your cable outlet (not through a converter box) and scan for digital cable channels.

You have comcast cable and you just brought an HDTV and you need to know if there is a way to get the HD channels or can do you have to call them?

You need an hdtv cable box, so you'll have to call them. WARNING: Most likely, however, the Comcast box will lack a DVD slot -- essential if you have a subscription service, like Netflix.

Do I need a HDTV for Monster cable?

Yes you do. If you don't have a HDTV or the correct cables, it will not look as sharp. You are paying more for the clearer picture. So if that isn't something you are looking for I would suggest another company.
