According to orthodox Islamic belief and teachings, the greatest crime which a person can commit, is Shirk (associating partners in the worship of Allaah) such as what grave-worshippers do in various parts of the world, including Muslim countries too!
Verily, Allâh forgives not that partners should be set up with Him (in worship), but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He wills; and whoever sets up partners with Allâh in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin. [Qur'aan, 4:48]
One's good and bad deeds will be weighted on the Day of Judgement as mentioned in this beautiful passage of the Qur'aan:
Then as for him whose balance (of good deeds) will be heavy, He will live a pleasant life (in Paradise). But as for him whose balance (of good deeds) will be light, He will have his home in Hawiyah (pit, i.e. Hell). And what will make you know what it is? (It is) a fiercey blazing Fire!
