If you mean that we cannot earn our way into salvation, then yes.

Ephesians 2:8 says "By this undeserved kindness you have been saved through faith, and this is not of your own doing; rather, it is God's gift."

Therefore, you cannot achieve salvation on your own merit.

Paul is discussing faith, but more importantly, God's undeserved kindness. It is by means of this undeserved kindness that he made an arrangement for salvation through his provision of a ransom sacrifice. He sent his only-begotten son, Jesus Christ to earth to die for our sins. Without the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, there is no basis for salvation. Therefore it is a gift.

However, this is not enough. You must have faith in the arrangement and demonstrate that in our lives.

(James 2:17)  Thus, too, faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself.

(James 2:26)  Indeed, just as the body without spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

So, to gain salvation, one must believe in Jesus and "exercise faith" in him and then "live in accordance" with that belief and faith.

(John 3:16) . . .For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. . .

What is free grace theology?

Free-Grace theology refers to a belief that a changed life does not necesarrily follow salvation. Free-Grace advocates believe that a "changed life" CAN be evidence of one's salvation, but it is not THE test. Works, righteous living, or any conformity to Christ comes from being in the WORD and applying it according to the Free-Grace proponent. On the contrary, LORDSHIP SALVATION teaches that a changed life naturally follows salvation. Works and righteous living IS an indication that one has been justified... The debate between both Free-Grace and Lordship Salvation arose in 1988 when Dr. John MacArthur wrote his book "The Gospel According to Jesus." The Free-Grace rebuttal, "Absolutely Free" was written by Dr. Zane Hodges.

Do Mormons believe in being saved by grce?

Yes. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe that salvation is only through the grace of Jesus Christ. This is very plainly written in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, both of which Mormons believe are the word of God. In addition to the many Biblical passages which tell us salvation comes through grace, The Book of Mormon echoes the doctrine of salvation through grace repeatedly: "Ye are sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ." -Moroni 10:33 "Redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for he is full of grace." -2 Nephi 2:6 "We know that it is by grace we are saved." - 2 Nephi 25:23 "It is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved." - 2 Nephi 10:24 "No flesh can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah." - 2 Nephi 2:8 The Book of Mormon also discusses how works do not qualify us for or 'buy' our salvation, but instead serves as a way to demonstrate and strengthen our faith in the power and mercy (grace) of God. This is often a topic of misunderstanding between Mormons and other Christians. Rather than go into detail here, if you'd like to learn more about what Mormons believe about grace and salvation, I would highly recommend you look up the talks "His Grace is Sufficient" by Brad Wilcox and "In the Strength of the Lord" by David A. Bednar at speeches.byu.edu. They do a wonderful job of explaining the doctrine of grace as interpreted by Mormons.

Is legalism monotheistic?

Legalism is a Chinese philosophy focused on strict adherence to laws and rules, so it does not have a direct focus on monotheism or polytheism like some religions do. It is more concerned with maintaining social order and stability through a strong legal system, rather than beliefs in deities.

What are the types of salvation in the New Testament?

There is only one type of salvation in the New Testament and that is salvation by grace: Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, It is the gift of God. A gift, of course, is a free and unconditional present. That is the only basis on which God offers salvation. The gift of God is salvation by grace and through faith. It is offered to all people everywhere.
