Your question is not very clear, but I think this is a scam. £750 is way too much to be charged at the airport (assuming you have valid tickets already), for excess baggage, visa fees or anything like that. Visas are not issued at departure airports anyway.
It looks like a dating scam, where scammers claim they can't get thru passport control to visit you without showing lots of cash to the Immigration officers. This is not true. Visitors might be asked by US immigration, when they arrive, for a plausible explanation of how they will support themselves, but it's fine to say you agreed to put them up. I'm afraid the person who told you this is probably not a US citizen, or even in England. They surely aren't coming to visit you.
