On the neck of a American girl there is two white strings don't take them off because those are there to keep her head up and to keep her head and body together.
you can preserve American girl dolls by washing their skin with Luke warm water every week or so. also to wash their hair with herbal essences every 3 or 4 years. also send them to a collector every year or so to have the neck ,leg and arm strings tightened.
Pleasant Company is the company that made the first American Girl dolls. Eventually, Mattel bought the company, and Mattel owns it today. However, they still all say "Pleasant Company" -I'm 13 and still LOVE AG!
The name on the american girl doll's neck changed when American Girl changed from Pleasent company to Mattel.
Pleasant
Go back to the store or contact their customer service. There are also "doll-doctors" that fixes broken dolls and teddybears etc and they might be able to help.

Well any sturdy string about the same width and length will work. And some dolls have zip ties as well.
If I were you, I wouldn't use your own brush on the doll. The best brush for the doll would be the official American girl brush that you can buy through the store. It's your choice though on which brush you want to use. .... No! dont use ur own brush, it will totally mess up their hair.
