The Talmud is composed of various parts: * Halachic guidelines which are the basis for practicing Jewish law. * ** All Jews agree with these * Arguments about the finer details of certain laws * ** Sometimes different Jewish communities side with opposing sides of an argument * Stories - like midrashim. These usually cannot be taken literally and their interpretation is open to argument

Yes and no. They all accept it as a historical book which contains the wisdom of sages and scholars in early Rabbinic Judaism. But to Orthodox (and some Conservative) Jews, the Talmud has the authority of sacred scripture, much like the Hebrew Bible; while for most Reform and other liberal denominations, it is seen as a useful resource for how Jewish customs, practices, and rituals developed, but it is not generally taken literally nor treated like sacred scripture.

There are really only 2 distinct types of Buddhism, though there are subgroups to them. The two major groups are Theravada and Mahayana. Theravada is call the "teachings of the Elders" and is most closest to the original teachings of the Buddha. Mahayana incorporates teachings of later Buddhas and Bodisatvas into the Buddhas original teachings.
