Since 78.08% of the Earth's atmosphere is composed of nitrogen, yes.

But it cannot be used in biological processes.

The nitrogen animals use comes in the form of nitrogen compounds acquired from food.

Ultimately, the nitrogen used by most living things is produced by nitrogen-fixing bacteria which do use nitrogen from the atmosphere, these compounds are then taken in and used by plants.

Can animals use nitrogen directly from the atmosphere?

no plants and animals cannot use nitrogen straight out of the air every time we take a breath you breath it in but it goes through nitrogen fixation to let us humans animals and plants to use it.

What converts nitrogen in the nitrogen cycle?

okay heres the nitrogen cycle nitrogen from atmosphere it taken in by 1)lightning( its energy causes nitrogen to react with oxygen n rain to the soil) 2)nitrogen- fixing bacteria in nodules ( plant roots which take it directly form the atmosphere ) NITROGEN FROM SOIL to organisms 1)nitrogen fixing bacteria in soil - breakdown of dead plants n animals releases nitrogen to the soil 2)fertilizers - which contain nitrogen compounds eg NPK OR natural fertilizers i,e dead plants n animals release nitrogen , animal urine and faeces release nitrogen as well to the soil 3)nitrogen fixing bacteria in nodules get nitrogen from its compounds in the soil 4)nitrifying bacteria - converts compounds of ammonia into nitrates .. for the plant nodules NITROGEN TO ATMOSPHERE 1) denitrifying bacteria in soil - changes nitrates to nitrogen gas and its released back to the atmosphere

Can humans get the nitrogen they need to exist in the air?

Plants and animals die and decomposers break down their nitrogen containing molecules to ammonia. All animals get the nitrogen they need by eating plants, by eating other animals that ate plants, or by eating animals that ate animals that ate plants.

Do plants take in nitrogen directly from the atmosphere?

Plants that can use nitrogen from the atmosphere are known as nitrogen fixers. The legume or pea family of plants are famous for being able to do this. Most plants don't have this ability.

How do animals and plants get nitrogen from the nitrogen cycle?

They use the nitrogen in the food they eat to form their bodies, particularly proteins. They throw out excess nitrogen with the help of excretion, and their bodies are decomposed after death into various forms of nitrogen, too.

Does plants take in nitrogen directly from air?

NO. Nitrogen is a required nutrient for plants but it is obtained from ammonia or nitrates used as fertilizers. Some plants can "fix" (convert nitrogen in the air to an usable form) with the assistance of microorganisms living at the roots.

What organism that can take Nitrogen directly from sea water?

Cyanobacteria

How do humans release nitrogen?

Much like humans, animals go through a process of metabolic waste to rid themselves of the toxins in their system. Some of the chemicals animals get rid of include nitrogen, phosphates, sulfates, water, and uric acid.
