The belief that a cat has nine lives is probably based on the fact that a cat is more tenacious of life than most other animals. Those who have undertaken to kill cats appreciate that fact.
Attempts have been made to trace the origin of the common expression back to ancient Egypt. It is often said that Pasht, or Bastet, the cat-headed goddess of Egypt, had nine lives and that this circumstance gave rise to the old saying about a cat having nine lives. Egyptologists, however, say that they have found no evidence for the statement. In fact Bastet, being a goddess, would be regarded as immortal. Nine, however, was a favorite number in Egypt, as well as with other ancient orientals, and it may have somehow been associated with the cat-headed goddess. SO YOU DECIDE WHAT YOU WHAT TO BELIVE!!!!!! Also it has also been proven that a cat does not have nine life's so i am sorry to every one that wants to belive that your cat can get hit by a truck and still live.

As far as we know, we all only have one life. The saying of cats having nine lives is only a saying, based on how the agility and flexibility of cats allowing them to survive high falls and other dangerous situations which would have injured or killed heavier and clumsier beings.

Can cats die?
Of course cats can die. Since cats are mammals, they are unable to indefinitely regenerate their cells, which results in old age and inevitable eventual death. The saying that cats have 9 lives is false.
