Chinchillas are (almost) like any other pet (socialization wise). You have to gain their trust by interacting with them everyday for about 3-6 hours. Most chinchillas take 3 months to fully earn your trust. If they trust you (and they are used to you petting them) they won't mind being pet. They LOVE if you scratch (not too hard) their chins! One of my chinchillas likes being pet between the ears.
Yes they do. In fact, they only like getting petted if you are very gentle with them.
Have you ever petted a Chin? They are uber-soft. Wild Chins are now protected from hunting/trapping. However, people do raise them specifically for their fur, just like a cow being raised for beef.
Yes petted is a real word. You could say: John petted his dog. Or: My dog wants to be petted. It doesn't sound like a real word though.
Many people like chinchillas for their soft fur, playful personality, and gentle nature, making them popular as pets. However, the exact number of people who like chinchillas is difficult to quantify.
Mine do! :D
