Does a dog with pointy ears hear better than a dog with floppy ears?

I have no idea if the large ears help them hear better. But the PURPOSE of the large ears is to better dissipate heat away from their bodies, to help keep them cool. Hippos don't need large ears because they spend most of their time in the water.

∙ 14y agoI have four dogs sharing a large backyard on our farm. I have a pure bred Pitbull with 'pointy ears', a pure bred 'Red Kelpie' with floppy ears and two mini fox terrior x dogs, a female with 'floppy ears', and a male with 'pointy ears'. I've noticed that when a car approaches down our road the Kelpie is the first to be alerted with his 'floppy' ears, followed by the male foxy with 'pointy wars then the pitbull and finally the female floppy earred foxy. I really think it depends on the breed. Our kelpie is trained to protect and is therefore very alert and notices noises further in the distance. Whether he heard first, or just reacted first...I guess I'll never know. Theres no scientific reason for different ears on different dogs ot have different hearing,they have the same hearing or if one of your dog doesnt seem to have the same hearing as your over dog then see a vet the dog maybe losing his hearing.
