The espresso coffee bean is from roasted from the arabicaspecies that contains 60% fat soluble lipids responsible for the essential coffee aromatic oil. The aroma of the espresso bean on shelf preservation undergoes a slow chemical change like all coffees. Oxidation occurs and the bean/grounds will stale.

Yes the beans can expire

Yes you can but be sure to keep in mind that espresso powder is more concentrated than espresso beans and to acheive the same flavor, it is not necessary to use the same amount of espresso powder as the amount of espresso beans called for in the recipe.

Coffee and espresso are two separate drinks, though the words are often used as synonyms. Espresso beans are specific types of coffee beans, and the espresso they make is thicker than coffee.

The machine will handle both. It will process ground beans, or grind the beans for you with the built in grinder.
