Nurses who must lift heavy weights (such as the weight of a person), or work longer shifts get more money. More male nurses tend to take this kind of work as they have the muscles to do the lifting, and are less often the primary caretakers of children at home, so can work night shifts. Male nurses who do this work may get paid more for it.
