Most guinea pig foods have vitamin c in them, but you need to pay attention to the package to be sure. Oranges are the best human food! My piggies go over the moon for them and they're incredibly healthy :) Just make sure you limit the amount of the treat to avoid weight gain and stomach upset.

∙ 13y agoAll guinea pigs need vitamin C because, like humans, their body cannot produce it on its own. A guinea pig that is pregnant can easily die of toxemia from an inadequate diet while she is carrying the babies. This can happen during pregnancy or very soon after giving birth. It is important however for ALL guinea pigs to get a quality pellet and timothy hay everyday. Vegetables rich in vitamin C are not treats, they are necessary for good health for your pet. If your pet does not get enough Vitamin C, it can affect their health in many (some irreversible) ways. A pellet with stabilized Vit. C is your best bet. Do not add vit drops to a guinea pig's water. It is pointless and will not get into their bodies like the product claims.

∙ 12y agoThe actual requirement of vitamin C varies from one guinea pig to another. While sick pigs suffering from scurvy need more vitamin c which can be given in pellets, healthy pigs get them naturally through the vegetables and fruits they eat. Also is you wish to make sure your guinea pig is getting adequate vitamin C, you can give it a vitamin C supplement. Multivitamins should not be used because of the potential for toxic overdose of vitamins other than C. Also try to avoid mixing vitamin C supplements in water as this may change the taste of water and in effect the pigs wouldn't drink the water. Refer the related links for more information.

∙ 11y agoOranges are a perfect snack and an excellent source of vitamin C. Don't give them daily, just a few times a week. Serve them in small slices, 1-2 at a time. You don't have to peel them, most pigs will just leave the peel unless it tastes good to them.
