In most cases no. The core flows both ways.

The heater core can be flushed out and hopefully be unclogged. A water hose can be hooked to the heater core hoses, and water flushed through to clean the core out.
In the dash. You can see 2 hoses to it enter your firewall. Right there.
remove the four nuts in the engine bay on the heater box near where the heater core hoses enter. Drain coolant remove the hoses and pull the heater box out from the inside of the car. Remove clips holding heater core, than put your new one in.

they run from two points by the fan in the front by the water pump to the heater core routed along the passenger side wheelwell until they reach the heater core either hose can go on either location because a heater core exchanges heat the same no matter which direction the flow passes in it. I hooked up mine so that the hoses stayed parallel to each.
The 1999 Chevrolet Camaro heater hoses will have a swivel nut on each end of the hose. Turn the swivel nuts to the left and the heater hoses will come off. Reverse the process to install the new heater hoses.
In line on the heater hoses on the passenger side of the engine. Has a small vacuum line to it and both heater hoses go through it. The heater hoses are smaller than the radiator hoses and go through the firwall.
You have either a cracked heater core or bad heater hoses that are allowing antifreeze to enter into the vehicle............
The heater hoses on a 305 engine run from the intake manifold to the heater core and the heater core to the radiator. This creates a constant source of heat to supply the heater.
I think they are just called heater hoses.
