Kangaroos and rabbits are not related even remotely. They share no common ancestor. The kangaroo's ancestor was a much larger version of the modern kangaroo, and quite unlike any ancestor of the rabbit.

They are both mammals. Mammals evolved around 220 million years ago. Most likely, rabbits and kangaroos share a common ancestor aoruns 160 million years ago or perhaps earlier!

No. The kangaroo has always been a kangaroo, although it originally existed in a larger form. Fossil remains of giant kangaroo species existing in prehistoric times have been found in Australia. One example of these was the Procoptodon goliah.
