There are no active viruses infecting Mac OS X. What are commonly called Computer Viruses are in reality viruses that infect the Windows operating system. Mac users, like any other computer user, can be tricked into downloading and installing malware on their Mac but such problems are limited to that user and do not affect other Mac users.

∙ 13y agoAlmost all viruses are written for the PC. They do not execute on the MAC. Also what makes a virus a virus, is that it can spread to other computers. If 100 unprotected windows computer are on a network, and one gets infected, it will infect all others. If malicious software got on a mac, that was written for a mac, they would have to first type in their admin password to make it install, but it could not spread to other computers because of internal security.

∙ 13y agoReally, Macs make up a small percentage of the world's computers. Hackers do not want to waste their time creating malware and viruses for a type of computer which makes up so little of the global market. Thus, Windows is far more targeted than is Mac. It all has to do with popularity.

a much smaller number of viruses are released and healthy cells can multiply more rapidly than they are destroyed. People who have this kind of infection don't seem to be sick.
Are macs really better than windows?
No difinetive answer is possible here. Depends on what you are looking to do, what programs you use and just overal personal preference. Having said that, I have heard that Mac's do not seem to have as many hiccups as pc's. Musicians and creative designers seem to prefer a mac.

I have used the tombraider level editor before and i didnt seem to have a problem, try running a virus scan after you'v downloaded it.

Get a good protector for your computer that blocks viruses (I suggest Norton) and don't visit websites that seem sketchy
Why should antivirus softwares be udated regularly?
because viruses are easy to get. i constantly have them on my laptop which is unprotected and they seem to come from no where believe me your laptop/computer is only fully safe when you have it.
