no they dont die at birth. They may have shorter lives than regular cats. The reason of male calicos appearing is because there was something wrong in the sex cell of the parent. Most likely an extra chromosome or a mutated one
Yes, there can be male calico cats as well as male torti cats, however they are born sterile and cannot reproduce.
Its generally not a good idea to let a male cat near kittens as he may harm them.

Sort of. A Calico cat is almost always (99.9% of the time) going to be female. The reason is that the female has two X genes, one has to carry red and the other black to get the 3 color effect. For a male to be a calico, it has to have XXY and is normally sterile.
There is no official data as to the percentage of black cats in the world. There are millions of black cats in every country.

The name calico refers to the cats being tri coloured white, brown, caramel or black and not the actual breed of cat. I have fosterd several calico females over the years and sizes depend on what breeding linage her parents come from . I dont think male cats are calico its usual for kittens to be female. So are torties they are female allso
Calico cats are almost always female. This occurs because the gene that determines color is located in the X chromosome and two X chromosome produce females.
