Mountains affect people in many ways. Large mountains create major climate differences on opposite sides of the mountain, generally one side being wetter and one side drier. Also mountains provide pleasing scenery, recreation opportunities like hiking, biking, camping, Photography, river running, wildlife, and cooler temperatures. Mountains are a very valuable source of water in desert climates, providing creeks, rivers, springs with the snow lingering there longer than in lower elevations. it's where the snow melts and flows into creeks and lakes. Areas with big lakes usually get more evaporation so they then get more rain and snow than other places. Full tornadoes very seldom occur in areas with mountains, like Utah.

People use them for tourism, farming and a lot of roads are there as well.

Example: The Alps

The Himalayas

But, because they are so steep it is very hard to build on. The climate is really cold and wet and avalanches are another effect.

Hope this helps.

Mountains are also significant barriers within and between groups and cultures. Their steepness, severe terrain, and decreased oxygen at higher elevations can keep people from crossing mountains. Even on lower elevations, like in the Appalachian Mountains, the change in pressure and thinner air can affect a person's ears and breathing.
