Is it normal for pregnant guinea pigs to lose some of their hair?

I'm not sure whether they shed hair, but when my guinea pig was pregnant, she got bald patches on her belly and, I was told this was normal. Shedding while pregnant does happen sometimes, I'm not sure why, but I've seen it happen and was told that it wasn't a bad sign, it was just the hormones changing and their system having trouble keeping up with the swift changes.

∙ 13y agoYes for some breeds. My Abbissinan lost a lot of her fur when she was preganent but my short hairs don't loose as much.

∙ 12y agoNo they do not. If your guinea pigs are loosing there hair take them to the vet as they could have mites, or lice.
