A male animal is castrated when his testicals are surgically removed. This might be done to prevent the animal from fathering young, to reduce the production of testosterone, or as a treatment for testicular cancer.

Castration is a form of permanent sterilization. (horse can't breed) The male horse's testicles are removed and from that time on he is known as a gelding. To some this may sound harsh but it is actually the best thing for the horse and the people that handle/own him. In fact most male horses are gelded. Unless he is superior in every way and used for breeding the horse will have a better life as a gelding. Stallions can be dangerous if not handled correctly, and they usually have to be separated from other horses, so to avoid a solitary life for a social animal gelding is the best way.

It means if they have a stallion for sale, and someone would rather have a gelding, they offer to castrate the horse by request, so that it is now a gelding.

Why are there only male stallions?

That's the only kind of stallions there are. A stallion is an uncastrated male horse. The other male horses are geldings which are castrated males. That only leaves mares.

What is a stallion?

A stallion is a fully grown male horse (over 4 years old, before that age he is called a colt) who has not been castrated. A male horse that has been castrated is called a gelding, and most male horses are gelded because stallions are often unpredictable and moody. Most stallions are only left intact (not gelded) because they are wanted for breeding. There is no other reason to leave a horse entire.

What does geilded donkeymean?

You mean gelded. This means a male that has been castrated. Most donkeys, like horse, are castrated in their first autumn or the following spring. Only if you want some "masculinity" in your animal do you wait until he is about to reach puberty. Alternatively, you ask the vet to cut the animal "proud" which means to leave in the epididimes.

Are Female horses are called mares?

A mare! A female horse is a mare, a male is a stallion, basically. However, a "baby" horse is a foal, a young male is a colt and a young female a filly. If a male horse is castrated it is then known as a gelding.I hope you were talking about horses - mare means sea in several languages, and that's a whole new topic.
