kangaroos are protected by law and it is illegal to hunt them. However, farmers in areas where kangaroo populations are very healthy are permitted to cull them - supposedly humanely, although these hunts are rarely humane, with kangaroos left in agony from gunshot wounds.

It doesn't, they're grass and plant eaters.

Although males might "hunt" females during mating season.

Further information:

The species most commonly known as "kangaroos" are herbivores and feed on grass and leaves. these kangaroos do not hunt.

Smaller varieties of kangaroos such as the musky-rat kangaroo are omnivores, eating fruits, seeds, fungi insect larvae and small invertebrates such as grasshoppers and beetles. These kangaroos could be said to hunt, as they turn over leaves and bark to find insect larvae, and when they find beetles and grasshoppers, they grab them quickly with their sharp teeth.

You can only hunt Kangaroos, any kind of Kangaroos, under certain very strict arrangements. You must either be working under a cull permit for trading as Skin or Meat, or you must be a farmer who has been issued with a destruction permit because Roos are destroying or damaging your crops. Outside of these arrangements, hunting of Kangaroos in Australia is forbidden by law.

No.

There are strict controls on the hunting of kangaroos in Australia. There is no season when they are permitted to be hunted by anyone with a gun. Those wiching to legally cull kangaroos need to undergo training, and meet certain criteria before they are permitted to hunt kangaroos, and then it is only done in areas where kangaroos are a declared pest.
