Pigs DO NOT normally eat mud or dirt. They may be rooting for something tasty, an acorn or an earthworm and it looks like they are eating mud but they aren't. If a pig IS eating dirt, its probably selenium deficient or deficient in some other way and care should be taken to have it on a nutrient rich food designed for your area of the county.

Dirt and water
If you mean a cage that hasn't been cleaned out for more than a week, then it is safe, but not for long. They have to be cleaned out more regualary than that. If you mean a dirty cage with dirt and dust, then DEFINATLEY UNSAFE. If you mean being outside on the grass on a muddy day, then it is fine.
to get through the dirt.
they roll in dirt
Its very muddy and mostly dirt. The ground and the air has a lot of moisture and in the mud and dirt are tiny rocks.
It gets muddy because the rain (water) mixed with some of the land (dirty, soil) turning into mud. Just as if you were to add some water to dirt, it would become muddy.
First of all, you are going to need alot of dirt. Earth worms live to dig and burrow under dirt, so they can eat it. Keep it in warm tempuratures, and make sure the dirt isn't just sand. It has to be moist, but not muddy, for that will drown the worm. You never have to feed a worm, because, like i said, they eat the dirt. It is very simple to take after one, and it help's fertalize your garden buy digging through the dirt. Hope this helped.
