What are uses of goats in Africa?

There are so many things that you can use your goat for today; the possibilities are endless! Generally, there are three types of goats: meat goats, angora goats and dairy goats. The meat goats are Boer goats, which is their breed, but often dairy goat wethers (boys that are unable to produce offspring) are killed and eaten. Angora and Cashmere goats are goats that are bred for their wool, just like sheep. Their wool is fluffy and curly. Their are many breeds of Dairy goats, although common are Saanen's, Nubian's, British Alpine's, Toggenburg's, Sables and Australian Melaan. Saanens are white in colour and produce the most milk, although Alpine's milk is creamier. Nubians are strange, as they have very long ears! Although you might be very put off by all those 'My Highland Goatie Oatie Oatie Oatie Oatie' songs and stories about goats eating clothes off your washing line, this is not true! Goats are beautiful and calm creatures that make perfect pets for people of all ages. Please Google pictures of these goats as they are so beautiful. Showing your goats is fun, and anybody can do it! All you need to do is have your goat registered with your dairy branch. Goats parade in a circle and are judged on size, quality and milk. Goat kids are the cutest animals around, as they are so delightfully bubbly in personality. They will jump all over you! There; now do you know what you can do with a goat?!

Why is goat and rabbit raising advantageous?

The biggest advantage is that with little effort, you can raise lean food fairly inexpensively. I used to raise rabbits and it was figured that it takes one fifty pound bag of rabbit pellets to raise a rabbit large enough to butcher. Goat is cheap to raise as long as you have adequate foraging for them and if you want the milk also, make sure to feed them some straw, hay or clover occasionally so to sweeten the milk. One thing to remember about rabbits is that you cannot get the fat the body requires from them. Incorporate something else in your diet. When on the frontier, countless people succumbed to rabbit starvation. Rabbit is Very good though and can be cooked about as varied as chicken.

Can you give a puppies cows milk until i can get a substitute?

dont even give puppies milk give them water there not cats Young puppies do need milk to survive but cow milk is not good for them. They need either milk re-placer made for puppies or goats milk. Cow milk is hard for them to digest and they will not do well on it. If you search the internet there are several recipes for home made milk re-placer for pups. It is challenging to bottle raise puppies but it can be done.

Do horses drink milk?

Yes and no. Mare's milk isn't considered the type of milk that could be distributed to the human population. However, historically, like in the days of the Old West, when a woman couldn't give enough breast milk to feed her newborn and the family owned no milk cow, they would use a mare that they owned that had just recently foaled to milk out and give milk to the baby. In today's world, chances of this happening is just about nil, except in possibly more poorer countries.

Are buttercup plants bad for goats?

Yes, unfortunatly, they are. Buttercups contain an acrid, volatile alkaloid-amenenol, strong enough to blister the skin and cause inflammation of the intestinal tract. Cattle and goats poisoned by buttercups produce bitter milk and a reddish color. The toxic material volatilizes and is lost when buttercups are dried as in hay. 25 A heavy growth of buttercup is an indication of low soil fertility. Have the soil analyzed and apply ground lime and fertilizers as their need is shown. The increased grass growth soon crowds out buttercups. http://netvet.wustl.edu/species/goats/goatpois.txt

Is a cow eating grass which is turned into milk?

Not necessarily. Cows produce milk to feed their calf. They're artificially inseminated to make them pregnant, and thus they produce the milk upto, and after the birth. Whatever food they eat - whether that's naturally-grown grass, or artificially produced feeds - gives them the energy, vitamins and minerals they need to produce the milk.

Why does a cow need energy?

They might not move around much, but female cows need energy to help their calf grow inside them (if they are pregnant), and produce milk to feed their young.
