It is not unusual for young people who are struggling with their sexuality to try to exaggerate behavior seen as "normal" for their gender. Often, they do this to try to fool others, but sometimes teenagers think that if they make their behavior more masculine it will make them heterosexual.
This is, of course, not true.
Gender norms are the expectations a culture has for behavior based on the gender of the people who live in that culture. If you look at history, gender norms have been very different over the years. In some cultures, straight men often wore makeup and wigs or long decorative robes with fine lace on them.
Plus, if you look at the current US culture, you'll find that there are many very masculine homosexuals and even more effeminate heterosexuals. The only real way to determine someone's sexuality is to be a trustworthy enough person that they'll tell you the truth if you ask them.

There's no exact answer to this as there are many levels of 'gayness'. "Closet" gay guys will behave like any straight guys because they don't want anyone to find out their sexuality. "Out' gay guys can behave like gay or straight, especially they're single, until he has a boyfriend, then they could show affections in public.

Especially young men in school are not necessarily immature, but just shy. On the other hand some Jocks are more likely to be so in love with themselves they they could well be playing an evasive game to get you interested in them.

Try switching to compression shorts - like Under Armor. i still like jocks though. tried compression and didnt like it. Also don't see a need to hide them. I actually wear a black under armour jock so they show up more and no one has ever said a word.
