There is no direct evidence to support the idea that tampons cause cancer, however many brands of tampons are bleached with chlorine or oxygen gas bleaching which creates the byproduct of dioxin - dioxin is a cancer-causing toxin, repeated exposure can increase risk of certain reproductive health problems and cancers. It is thus advisable to opt for non-bleached cotton tampons, or consider safer options such as sponges, non-bleached cotton pads, cloth pads, menstrual cups or softcups.

There are concerns over the ingredients used in commercial tampons, bleaching processes in particular result in commercial tampons containing dioxin which is a known carcinogen with no safe levels. The vagina absorbs toxins which can then accumulate in fatty tissues in the body, thus cumulative exposure may result in higher risk of cancer long-term. Tampon companies are self-tested, self-regulated, and don't inform customers of ingredients used so we don't know full risks.

Yes, you can wear tampons. The vagina of a virgin is absolutely no different to that of a non-virgin so there is no reason why a virgin should avoid tampon use - although tampons are not recommended to pre-teens or teens given higher risks of TSS, pads or menstrual cups are best. Tampons don't cause cervical cancer, although some brands of tampons like Tampax or Playtex can contain dioxin which increases cancer risks, they do not directly cause cervical cancer. If worried use organic cotton tampons like Natracare or Emerita, sponge tampons like Jade & Pearl, menstrual cups or softcups - all are much safer options.
My mom's friend scared her out of using tampons now my mom is telling me that i should not use them anymore because her friend says apparently they cause cancer which is NOT TRUE what do i do now?
Explain to your mum that this is simply not true. Show her internet sites and evidence that that this is false information. The only risk involved with tampons is TSS which is an extremely rare, but serious conditon. Failing this, you could email Tampax asking them if it is true, and then show your mother the reply letter. Hope this helps.
