wild tarantulas, when cold will generally slow down and stay at home, although they still eat. pet tarantulas are usually kept in warm rooms or heated environments, therefore do not slow down, and still eat. although most tarantulas go through periods where they just don't feel like eating. i have a Mexican redknee who ate probably 6 crickets in one year, and now eats that a fortnight at least. likewise i have a Chile rose who when i first got her (from a pet shop, and i swear they either NEVER fed her, or they had got her mail order from abroad) decided to eat two whole boxes of crickets in a week and now only eats a couple of crickets a week. some people only feed them once a month though, which is aparrentley ok. hope that answers your question
