Do tetras need the light on at night?

Fish don't really sleep in the same manner as most animals. They move into more of a decreased activity state in which that make minimal fin movements only to stay upright.

Do they need dark to sleep? Well that depends on the fish really. Some fish are nocturnal and come out during the dark. But the general answer is no, they don't need it to sleep, but it helps let them know that it is time to start sleeping.

Hey there, Tiger barbs dont need a light on at night. Freshwater fish should have a break from the light at night, it helps them stay in tune with day and night and there fore promotes a healthy fish. Remember that the more u can make ur tank feel like a natural habitat the happier the fish, coz they all have that instinct in them. No they don't. They only reflect so much light that it makes them look like they glow. Once it's dark their color actully fades out quite a bit. It returns to normal shortly after the tank gets light again.
