No not even close, the engines are totally different, the vulcan used to run a distributor in the early models and when the new ignition system was initiated the hole was still in the block so thats where the sensor is, on the duratec it never ran a distributor and if i'm not mistaken it sits near the timing belt on the top of the engine, where as the vulcan is buried under the intake and wiring, but short answer no, totally different..
On a 2003 Ford Taurus : The 3.0 liter " Vulcan " V6 engine ( and its flex fuel version ) Which is an Over Head Valve / pushrod design engine The 3.0 liter " Duratec V6 engine ( which is a Dual Over Head Cam engine design )
A 2003 Ford Taurus was offered from the factory with either the 3.0L " VULCAN " V6 engine ( and the flex fuel version ) which are OHV ( Over Head Valve / pushrod design engines ) or The 3.0L " Duratec " V6 engine which is a DOHC ( Dual Over Head Cam ) design

Yes. The Generation 3 (1996-1999) 3.0L 24V DOHC Duratec V6 does use the same coil pack as the 3.0L 12V OHV Vulcan V6. OEM - Genuine Motorcraft #W0133-1897071 Airtex/Wells #5C1123 Delphi #GN10180 Be aware, the 2000 year model Duratec changes to a "Coil on plug" configuration and no longer shares parts with the 3.0L Vulcan. Ford returns to an interchangeable Coil Pack on the Duratec in 2001-2003 year models, where they again change back to a Coil on Plug for the following model year configuration until the motor was no longer issued in 2005 The Generation 3 & 4 3.0L Vulcan never was Coil on Plug. Bear in mind the Generation 1-2 (1986-1995) Ford Taurus Vulcans were a Distributed Single Coil Ignition system and are NOT compatible with the Generation 3-4 (1996-2007) Coil Pack Ignition Vulcans.

On a 2003 Ford Taurus : The 3.0 liter " Vulcan " V6 engine ( and flex fuel version ) have ( 1 ) timing CHAIN The 3.0 liter " Duratec " DOHC , V6 engine has ( 2 timing CHAINS , one chain to each cylinder head
